2024 – Thermal Curtains

2024 - Thermal curtains - for the Chaplain Door, The South Door, The South Aisle Door, The West Door and the Tower Door. These will help with keeping the church warm and draft free. In the photo is Meredith Bateson who made the curtains which were paid for by the Friends. This a part of St Michael’s effort to reach the CofE’s objective of Net Zero by 2030.

2023 – Restoration of the Tables of the Law

Before 1855 the Creed and the Ten Commandments would have been painted on either side of the chancel arch. Reordering was the name given to four separate projects that cost a total of £138,000. 2021 – Reordering – The servery

The ‘kitchen in a cupboard’ is made of oak and designed to complement the bookshelves by Mr Dunn. For the first time since the Reformation in the 16th century the church has held Catholic Services conducted by Father Francis Eyo.

2009 – Refurbishment of the Vestry

The oak cupboards in the Vestry were designed by Tony Traves of Mere. And built by G.C. Meare at a total cost of £5882 The cupboards hold the robes for the vicar and servers, linen for the altars, church candles etc. In 2011 an oak door was fitted to the vestry £708

2003- Restoration of the Dolling grave

In the north-east part of the grave yard is tombstone of Edmund Dolling who died as a result of self-administered variolation – a dangerous precursor of vaccination – in which smallpox serum was used instead of of milder cowpox serum used later by Edward Jenner.
