2023 – Restoration of the Tables of the Law

Before 1855 the Creed and the Ten Commandments would have been painted on either side of the chancel arch. These would have been destroyed in the removal of the plaster rendering and were
replaced by painted zinc tablets at either end of the top rail of the screen. They were made by W.Miller of 32 Brewer Street, Golden Square London at a cost of £5.10s.

They had to be removed in 1898/9 when the gallery was replaced on the screen. For over a century they lay on the floor of the loft quite ignored. In 2004 they were hung beneath the tower and were restored by Mike Durkee in 2023.

Very few of these metal panels survive today.
