The Year Clock, written by Tim Laycock, is a captivating play about William Barnes, the Dorset poet and philologist (1801-1886). Known for his famous poem Linden Lea, Barnes explored language and the beauty of rural life. For Christmas 2024 the artist Bruce Munro, has kindly donated his creation “Star of Bethlehem” to be exhibited in St Michael’s Church. A traditional Service of Nine Lessons and Carols in St Michael’s Church, Mere, with singers from The Choir of University College, Oxford. Please join us for mulled wine and mince pies after the service.
As usual Father Christmas was stationed in the clock tower in the centre of the village. This is a regular friendly meeting for those who enjoy recycling pre-loved books and getting together. We normally gather about two times a year.
On Saturday 30th November, the church opened for viewing decorative bells made by Mere’s many community groups. During the day there was a demonstration of handbell ringing, there was a peal of the bells in the tower and the opportunity to have a go at chiming the bells.
