General David Leakey will give a humorous and fascinating exposé of Black Rod’s role including the unseen sagas, the unheard tales, some history, humour, and some serious points too.
Following a Law degree at Cambridge, 39 years in the Army as a ‘tank soldier’ and commanding operations all over the world, David Leakey retired as a Lieutenant General. From 2010 he spent seven years in Parliament as ‘Black Rod’, planning and running Parliament’s daily operations and contingencies, and with a well-known ceremonial role. Since retiring from Black Rod, he has taken up executive roles in international and UK companies in the Chemical, IT and App development sectors. He is also an occasional TV and Radio commentator on topical issues. He was previously Chairman of The National Childrens Orchestras of GB, is currently a trustee, governor or chair of numerous charities, sporting and educational organisations. He has played squash at national level and lists golf, tennis, skiing, sailing, shooting and chain-sawing as his relaxation therapy. He has a passion for music, is a choral singer and a ‘very amateur’ pianist.
